In the beginning there was…

So, how did the spooky silliness that is CatBats get started?

My illness can really fluctuate. Admittedly, mostly in a downwards direction — but occasionally there’s just enough oomph the opposite way to make me believe I can be creative for a hot minute.

I’d figured out something health-related in October, and by December something in my brain just kinda caught up with itself and I was itching to do something with the small amount of extra brain-power I was experiencing. Still had to keep it very simple, though, because there’s no telling when that brain-power will decide to go on holiday and take the creativity with it.

Chatting on WhatsApp with some friends, I decided to meld a previous project of mine — a glittery bat sticker for another friend’s mobility scooter — with at first, just one cat — Miss Sól here. It was simple, but it turned out so cute that I had to do the other two as well and complete the set.

At the time I had no thoughts of turning it into anything else, that just sort of evolved later — and I was using an old template.

To make it into a new and entirely original thing, I had to redo the silhouette from the start, and port my three original designs into the new form. Et voíla — here they are.
